October 22, 2020 - Winter Housing Update
Dear future resident,
Our records indicate that you have an active 20-21 Housing Contract and have deferred your decision to live on campus until winter term. In light of PSU’s recent announcement that it will be continuing with mostly remote instruction for winter term 2021, we wanted to check in on your housing plans. In an effort to provide flexibility and support during this difficult time, University Housing and Residence Life is offering three options for your winter housing. Please note the November 16th deadline specified below. The class schedule in Banweb will be updated to indicate the winter format of each class by October 26. We encourage you to review the class schedule to plan for winter term and notify us of any changes in your housing plans prior to the November 16th deadline.
Option #1: Stay with us in our residence halls this winter! Yes, you are still welcome to live on campus with us this winter. For the time being, we will continue to prioritize single occupancy assignments for the winter term, minimizing our residential density. Students who have signed up for a double will likely continue to not have a roommate winter term. In this case, you will pay the double rate (as if you had a roommate), and agree to potentially be assigned a roommate at a later date. In some cases, this may require a room transfer to a new double unit. If you have indicated a preferred roommate, we would do our best to place you together at that time. If you have confirmed an assignment for a single room, you will pay the single rate in order to maintain your room as a single through winter and spring terms. Dining will be take-out only until it is safe to resume usual dining hall operations. You can log in to the Housing Portal to review or edit your housing preferences. Please review the 20-21 Housing Handbook for updated housing policies and current COVID related procedures.
Option #2: Defer your contract to a spring move-in by 11/16. This ensures you can move in at the start of Spring term, but does not guarantee a specific space or unit type. There is no cost to defer your contract if you defer to spring by November 16. If classes remain remote beyond the winter term, we anticipate a similar approach to what is outlined in this email for spring term. The deadline to defer your contract to spring is November 16. Cancellation fees starting at $423 and $847 will apply to any confirmed winter assignment deferred after November 16. Please reference our updated Cancellation Guide for details.
Option #3: Cancel your housing contract by 11/16. You will not be charged winter cancellation fees. You will not receive a refund of the $50 application fee or $140 spring prepayment. If you decide to move in at a later date, you will need to email firstname.lastname@example.org to request that your contract be reactivated. A $50 reactivation fee will be charged at that time. We cannot guarantee availability if you select this option. Cancellation fees starting at $423 and $847 will apply to any confirmed winter assignment cancelled after November 16. If you would like to defer to Spring or cancel your 20-21 Housing Contract, please email email@example.com by November 16 at 11:59 pm PST. If you would like to move in this winter, no further action is required and we look forward to welcoming you to campus! We will start sending winter Housing assignments in mid-November. Specific room assignment details for those who have a confirmed winter housing assignment will be sent in mid-December.
