January 25, 2021 - Spring Housing Update

Dear Future Residents,

Our records indicate that you have an active 20-21 Housing Contract for spring term.  In light of PSU’s recent announcement that it will be continuing with mostly remote instruction for spring term 2021, we wanted to check in on your housing plans.  In an effort to provide flexibility and support during this difficult time,  University Housing and Residence Life is offering two options for your spring housing.  Please note the February 15th deadline specified below.  The class schedule in Banweb will be updated to indicate the spring format of each class by February 1st.  We encourage you to review the class schedule to plan for spring term and notify us of any changes in your housing plans prior to the February 15th deadline.

Option #1: Stay with us in our residence halls this spring!  Yes, you are still welcome to live on campus with us this spring.  For the time being, we will continue to prioritize single occupancy assignments for the spring term, minimizing our residential density.  Students who have signed up for a double will likely continue to not have a roommate for spring term. In this case, you will pay the double rate (the same amount as you would if you had a roommate), and agree to potentially be assigned a roommate at a later date, once roommate restrictions have been lifted.  In some cases, this may require a room transfer to a new double unit. If you have indicated a preferred roommate, we would do our best to place you together at that time.  If you have confirmed an assignment for a single room, you will pay the single rate in order to maintain your room as a single through spring term.  Dining will be take-out only until it is safe to resume usual dining hall operations. You can log in to the Housing Portal to review or edit your housing preferences.  You can also fill out a Summer 2021 housing contract now, if you would like housing for more than one term.  Please review the 20-21 Housing Handbook for updated housing policies and current COVID related procedures. 

Option #2: Cancel your housing contract by 2/15.  You will not be charged spring cancellation fees.  You will not receive a refund of the $50 application fee or $140 spring prepayment, as the deadline to receive a refund of the spring prepayment was 8/17/2020.  If you decide to move in for spring term at a later date, you will need to email housing@pdx.edu to request that your contract be reactivated.  A $50 reactivation fee will be charged at that time.  We cannot guarantee availability if you select this option.  Cancellation fees starting at $423 and $847, depending on enrollment status, will apply to any confirmed spring assignment cancelled after February 15.  Please reference our updated Cancellation Guide for details.

If you would like to cancel your 20-21 Housing Contract, please email housing@pdx.edu by February 15 at 11:59 pm PST.  If you would like to move in this spring, no further action is required and we look forward to welcoming you to campus!  We will start sending spring Housing assignments by the end of February.  Specific room assignment details for those who have a confirmed spring housing assignment will be sent in early March.
