Jess Millar Honors Success

As an Honors Program senior and McNair Scholar, Jess Millar recently received the Dean's Academic Achievement Award at PSU for the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. During the summer before her senior year, she received a fellowship to conduct bioinformatics research at The Genome Institute at Washington University in St. Louis. Jess is currently pursuing a triple major in Biology, Health Studies, and General Science with a minor in Mathematics.

"I have had the privilege of working in several biology labs at Portland State University which have helped diversify my training in different model organisms and provided the opportunity to view problems at both the microscopic and population level. The Urban Honors Program at PSU has given me the opportunity to further my research and hone my writing and critical thinking skills in and out of the lab.

"Having transferred into Urban Honors Program as a junior, I have had the opportunity to experience PSU both ways. PSU is a large school and it is easy to get lost in the crowd. Honors acts as a guidepost to make sure you have everything you will need to be successful. It is also extremely tailored so individuals are able to reach their potential."
