This free public event seeks to recognize the 70 years of engineering, geologic, and cultural challenges and progress made since the Vanport Flood of 1948. On Memorial Day 1948, the dike protecting the 650-acre housing project along the Columbia River failed, leaving 20,000 laborers and their families homeless.

Event details include:
*5:30-6:00: Tabling session and light food and drinks.
*6:00-7:00: Documentary: OPB special Oregon Experience: Vanport. This documentary provides background of the area, infrastructure failures, and the lasting impact of the community in Portland.
*7:00-9:00: 10 minutes presentations from eight distinguished speakers with different perspectives on the Vanport Flood.

Please join us to recognize this significant time in Oregon history.
