Carnegie Conversation: Promoting the Success of Military Student Veterans
Thursday, April 26, 2012 - 3:00pm to Thursday, April 26, 2012 - 5:30pm

WHAT: The Center of Academic Excellence invites you to the Spring 2012 Carnegie Conversation: Promoting the Success of Military Student Veterans

WHEN: Thursday, April 26, 2012 @ 3:00 P.M.

WHERE: Smith Memorial Student Union 296/8 (1825 Southwest Broadway)

Over a quarter of a million veterans are currently enrolled in U.S. colleges and universities, and a quarter of a million more have applied for GI Bill education benefits. In total, nearly two million military personnel who served in Iraq and Afghanistan are eligible for the 2009 Post-9/11 GI Bill. The number of veteran students enrolled at PSU, currently over 800, is expected to increase dramatically in the coming years.

The transition from the military to college can be a challenge for returning veterans.  This Carnegie Conversation will introduce a panel of PSU faculty, veteran students, and professionals working toward the success of veterans in higher education, followed by an opportunity for faculty and staff to discuss strategies for promoting the success of military student veterans.

Join the conversation and explore ways to improve the academic success and well-being of this growing student population.

A wine & cheese reception follows this event, from 4:30 to 5:30 pm

RSVP Now:  Center for Academic Excellence (503) 725-5642

Carnegie Conversations provide a venue for faculty members to talk about key issues affecting higher education, to explore various aspects of the scholarship of teaching and

learning and engagement, and to share strategies for the improvement of classroom learning.
