The Hatfield Graduate Journal of Public Affairs

The Hatfield Graduate Journal of Public Affairs is a graduate student-led academic journal of the Mark O. Hatfield School of Government in the College of Urban and Public Affairs at Portland State University. The journal features faculty, practitioner, and graduate student submissions that explore a range of public affairs issues. You can read Volume 1, Issue 1 of the journal on PDXScholar.

The mission of the journal is to serve as a focal point for public affairs discussions concerning local, state, national, and international issues. The journal aims to bring together perspectives from across the various fields of research on public affairs – political science, public administration, public policy, and governance. Each volume features a wide-ranging forum for research, discovery, and dialogue of public affairs topics related to a set of equally diversified discipline areas, as is representative of the Mark O. Hatfield School of Government’s research concentrations.

This journal will include submissions under the following categories: original research articles, research briefs, critical responses to research, book reviews, field reports from practitioners, policy memos, review essays, and other forms of informative contribution.

The HGJPA follows Chicago Manual of Style citation guidelines, and requests that those submitting make every effort to adhere to them. Authors who submit articles following other citation styles will be asked to convert their citations to Chicago as a condition for publication.

Submissions to the HGJPA should be in MS Word formatting and include:

  • The lead author’s curriculum vitae or résumé with contact information
  • An abstract
  • The article being submitted
  • A statement of whether the paper is under review at other journals.

The Hatfield Graduate Journal of Public Affairs is dedicated to creating an industry-standard publication that disseminates pertinent articles relating to the field of public policy and administration. It has been granted an ISSN of 2474-1078 by the Library of Congress.
