PSU History

I was hired in 2010 by the Center for the Improvement of Child & Families Services to direct their emerging Early Childhood and Family Support Research team. From 1996-1999 I worked as an Assistant Professor of Applied Social Psychology in the PSU Psychology Department.

Experience

For over 20 years, Dr. Green’s career has focused on conducting community-based research and evaluation that informs policy and improves programs for children and their families.  Her experience includes evaluations of numerous home visiting and early learning programs, including Early Head Start, Head Start, Healthy Families Oregon, Relief Nurseries, and other programs designed to prevent child maltreatment, improve school readiness, and support family and child well-being.  In the area of infant-toddler programming and home visitation, Dr. Green is an original member of the National Early Head Start Research and Evaluation Project, a 15-year longitudinal impact study of Early Head Start.  Dr. Green has also led the statewide evaluation of the Healthy Families Oregon home visiting program since 1999, as well as a recently-completed randomized trial of the Healthy Families program utilizing administrative data sources as primary outcome measures.  Dr. Green is currently partnering with private and public sector funders in Oregon to develop and implement data-driven approaches for planning, implementing and evaluating Prenatal-Grade 3 systems change initiatives.

Academic/Research Interests

Current areas of expertise include community-based participatory research, home visiting, child abuse prevention, early childhood mental health consultation, early childhood care and education, and Prenatal-Grade 3 systems.  In all her work, Dr. Green strives to use research to address systemic barriers to family and child well-being, and to engage family and community partners’ voices in designing, implementing, and utilizing the research.

Personal Interests

I am an avid baker and home gardener, and love to hike and explore outdoors.
