Congratulations to students of Portland State University’s American Marketing Association (AMA) on their recent success at the 34th Annual International AMA Collegiate Conference held in New Orleans March 22-25, 2012.
The theme of this year’s conference was Marketing: Always Evolving. Just look at how marketing the 4 P’s has evolved and changed over the years:
Products are more advanced
Prices are cheaper
Placement is now online
Promotion is done through social media
As finalists in the International Case Competition, the students presented their integrated marketing campaign for a new Pearson online service concept called "Prepare" directly to four marketing representatives from Pearson Learning Solutions. The campaign branded the concept "Prepare U" and featured extensive use of interactive social media, public relations and sales promotions to drive 5,000 registrations within one year utilizing a budget of $500,000. The students placed 3rd in this competition, for which the organization will receive a cash prize of $1,000.
PSU AMA also placed 2nd in the Membership Competition, which was largely based on the success of their fall membership campaign. This campaign increased membership by 37%, expanded participation of underclassmen and featured a number of events including "Day in the Life of a Marketer" and "Meet the Marketing Faculty." PSU AMA also received awards for Outstanding Performance in Chapter Communications, Professional Development and Chapter Planning.
Although many PSU AMA students contributed to these projects, the following seven represented the organization at the conference:
