Dr. Jungmin Kwon is an Assistant Professor in the School of Film. Her research and teaching interests include film and digital media, gender and sexuality, entertainment industry, fan culture, and Korean film and media. Her work has been published in academic journals such as Television and New Media, International Journal of Communication and Journal of Fandom Studies. Her recent book Straight Korean Female Fans and Their Gay Fantasies (University of Iowa Press, 2019) is about ardent Korean female fans of gay representation in the media, their status in contemporary Korean society, their relationship with other groups such as the gay population, and, above all, their contribution to reshaping the Korean media’s portrayal of gay people. She teaches Contemporary Korean Cinema, Media Industry, Audiences, and Fans, Global Social Media Culture, Gender and Sexuality in Global Digital Culture, Film Analysis, Advanced Film Analysis, and Contemporary Film Theory. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and both an M.A. and a B.A. from Seoul National University.
