Announcing the Inaugural Quarterly challenge for Current Applied Linguistics Students!

This is inaugural challenge:

You have likely noticed this natural phenomenon in Portland this past month: leaves from the many deciduous trees fall on the street, become pulverized and mix with rain (see attached photo).  The challenge is to coin an English word for that substance.

The challenge is for current students in the department. To participate, you need to write your answer on a piece of paper, come to the department during regular business hours (9-5), and put your answer into the box on the front desk. Be sure to include your name and e-mail address with your answer.

This quarter's prize: a gift certificate to ChitChat Cafe.

Answers due by November 19th, 5:00 PM

And look for the winter quarter challenge sometime in February.
