At convocation on Sept. 24, Provost Sona Andrews recognized recipients of this year's excellence awards for outstanding contributions to the University: professors Leslie Hammer, Lois Delcambre and Kimberly Pendell, and Assistant Dean Robert Mercer.

Hammer, professor of psychology, received the Branford P. Millar Award for Faculty Excellence. Her scholarly contributions to organizational policy, health of employees in our community, and family life of individuals across the globe earned her the Millar award. Delcambre, professor of computer science, was this year's winner of the George C. Hoffmann Award for Faculty Excellence. She was recognized for her dedication to the success of students at PSU and in local high schools, as well as being a role model for women in computer science.

The Kenneth W. and Elsie W. Butler Award for Library Faculty Service went to Pendell, social sciences librarian. Pendell has only been at the University for three years, but has already gained a reputation for bringing creative, professional and astute strategy to her work with students and faculty. Mercer, assistant dean in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, received the Mary H. Cumpston Award for Service to Students. A long-time employee of PSU, Mercer was honored for his generous, thoughtful mentoring of students and equally positive collaborations with faculty and staff.
