Paula Carder, Institute on Aging and School of Public Health faculty, received a $248,000 grant to study how state regulations affect assisted living resident outcomes. This project is part of a $658,000 grant from the Institute on Aging to Brown University. The study focuses on residents with Alzheimer's disease and related disorders, who account for at least half of assisted living residents nationally. Using Medicare claims, the study will compare resident health outcomes by state to assess the potential impact of regulatory requirements. Specific outcomes of interest include resident use of hospital, nursing home, home health, and hospice use.
