At a time when our cultural and artistic institutions are more deeply exploring how to pursue meaningful organizational change around diversity & inclusion, and society itself is turning to the arts to cope with social and cultural challenges, "The Artist as Citizen" is an exciting new initiative that seeks to reframe arts education with social advocacy (citizenship) as a core principle and learning objective.

The Artist as Citizen Teach-In is an opportunity for discovery and conversation around ways that social engagement and activism can inform and invigorate the broader arts curriculum, as well as an  a chance to hear from powerful artists in our community about how they combine artistic practice, advocacy, and leadership to impact communities and effect change.
Speakers include: Actor/director Kevin Jones, Dancer/choreographer Oluyinka Akinjiola, community-based artist Emily Squires,  Architect and PSU professor Margarette Leite; Jazz pianist Darrell Grant
