Let Knowledge Serve Innovation

Nabil Mistkawi

Saved Intel millions

It took Nabil Mistkawi three days to solve a problem that stumped other top researchers: how to make Intel’s microprocessors smaller and faster by removing a layer of metal without damaging the other materials.

Mistkawi, then a PSU doctoral chemistry student, full-time Intel engineer and father of three young children, took up the challenge. His breakthrough chemical solution is environmentally friendly and saves Intel millions of dollars each year. During a visit to Intel, President Barack Obama said stories like Mistkawi’s “give me hope.”

At Portland State University, we believe knowledge works best when it serves the community.
