Let Knowledge Serve Everyone
An activist for accessible design
Ashley Schahfer knows that even thoughtful design can dissuade or block people with disabilities. As a paraplegic and a wheelchair user, she has experienced what she calls “disabling architecture” firsthand.
As a graduate student in Portland State’s architecture program, she combines her activism and creativity to design and promote beautiful and functional environments for everyone. "Architecture has the power to choreograph our lives," Schahfer says.
At Portland State University, we believe knowledge works best when it serves the community.
