How does the IELP program differ from the ESL program?

The Intensive English Language Program (IELP) at Portland State University is for students seeking English language training only. The non-credit classes offered through the IELP can prepare you for regular academic courses at PSU or other institutions.

The English as a Second Language (ESL) program is for students who are conditionally admitted to PSU and restricted to ESL classes until they satisfy the English language proficiency requirement. ESL classes carry credit and, depending on your major, may count as elective credits toward your degree.
