Where: Tiffany Center, 1410 SW Morrison St., Portland
The Helen Gordon Center at Portland State University is raising money for its family scholarship program, a professional development fund for the center's teachers, and to create a nature playscape.
The playscape is designed to reduce some of the concrete in the center's play area and substitute it with more natural elements such as plants, rocks and water to help foster creativity and physical fitness, and to help the children engage all their senses. The playground transformation also will expand the outdoor space for infants and toddlers, replace aging equipment, and provide more covered play space.
The family scholarship program supports families experiencing short term financial hardship. It also provides tuition reduction for qualifying lower income PSU faculty, staff and students. The center allocates about $15,000 per year for this purpose.
Tickets for the event are $40, which covers tapas and dessert. The auction will be for items ranging from wine, jewelry and handcrafted items to restaurants and vacation packages. Entertainment will be provided by Portland indie band Tortune. Cocktail attire is requested.
The Helen Gordon Child Development Center is Portland State University's full-day childcare program. It serves 200 children, from infants through kindergarten. In addition to providing childcare, it serves as an academic laboratory for University faculty and students studying early childhood education, child and family studies, psychology and related fields.
