On January 11, Taiwanese voters will elect their next president and legislature. These elections will not only set the direction of Taiwan’s domestic politics for the next four years, but could also have a significant impact on the security and politics of East Asia, affecting everything from Taiwan’s difficult relations with the PRC to the protests in Hong Kong to the U.S.-China confrontation over trade. This talk will cover the election results and discuss the implications for Taiwan’s future, including the possible consequences for managing the tricky US-PRC-Taiwan trilateral relationship.
