Students for the Shores
Wednesday, June 3, 2009 - 6:00pm

Oregon Shores Conservation Coalition is reaching out to young as well as old by proudly presenting Students for the Shores. Our goal is to help foster pride in our beautiful Oregon coast by involving young people (and all others) in effective methods of environmental stewardship.

A particular focus of this event is to highlight the important role students have in deciding the future of our coastal region. We will be discussing key issues such as climate change, marine reserves, plastics in the ocean, and invasive species. The emphasis will be not just on the problems, but on what people can do to make a difference in combating them.

There will be free live musical performances by local artists Picnic, Acroyear, and others, as well as free food and raffle prizes. The local artists are donating their time and will be releasing a CD from which all proceeds will be donated to Oregon Shores.

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009
Where: Smith Memorial Student Union, room 238
Time: 6:00 pm
Cost: Free

The Students for the Shore event was organized by Amanda Leece, a Portland Community College student who is part of Oregon Shores' "Next Generation Team," a group of community college students who are working with the board and staff to help the organization improve its outreach to young people, while at the same time conducting coastal conservation projects of their own.
