The Department of Foreign Languages
and Literatures presents a reading in Spanish
by Award winning Argentine-Spanish poet and author Noni Benegas. She will read
from her most recent published collection "FRAGMENTOS DE UN DIARIO DESCONOCIDO"
(Fragments of an Unknown Diary)
Noni Benegas was born in Argentina and moved to Spain in 1977 where she established dual citizenship. She has been a prolific writer and literary critic during the last twenty three years. She has received many awards for her poetry collections including the 1982 Platero Poetry Award in Geneva for EX AEQUO WITH THIRTEEN SONNETS and ARGONAUTICA (Laertes press, 1984), the 1986 Miguel Hernandez national award for her collection entitled BALSA DE LA MEDUSA (C.A.M. press, 1986), a 1995 grant from the Ministry of Culture to publish CARTOGRAFIA ARDIENTE (Verbum press), the 2004 Spanish award for national and international poetry Poesia Esquio. Her work has appeared in a number of poetry anthologies including New Argentine Poetry, Erotic Poetry of Spain and Latin America. Her successful anthology on contemporary Spanish female poets sold out and went to press immediately for a second printing (1997, 1998). Ms. Benegas publishes articles on a regular basis with leading journals of Spain and Latin America.
