PSU Symphony Orchestra: Appalachian Spring and Mahler's Fourth
Sunday, June 5, 2005 - 7:30pm

Keith Clark will conduct the PSU Symphony in a Farewell Concert on Sunday, June 5
at 7:30 PM in Lincoln Performance Hall. This will be his final appearance as Director of Orchestral Studies before assuming the positions of Principal Guest Conductor of the Omsk State Philharmonic Orchestra in Russia and Resident Conductor of the Austrian American Mozart Academy and Amadeus Opernensemble in Salzburg, Austria.

The concert will feature Aaron Copland's APPALACHIAN SPRING, performed simultaneously with the classic film of the Martha Graham Dance Company's original choreography of this most famous American ballet. This will be an opportunity to see and hear the rarely performed original version of the complete ballet, originally entitled "Ballet for Martha."

The expanded PSU Symphony will crowd the stage for the FOURTH SYMPHONY of GUSTAV MAHLER. Unique among major symphonic works, Mahler's 4th concludes quietly with an extended song for singer and orchestra. Faculty Soprano Ruth Dobson, Director of the PSU Opera Theater, will be featured as soloist in that beautiful setting of "The Heavenly Life: A Child's Vision of Heaven."

Location: Lincoln Performance Hall, room 175 (1620 SW Park Avenue)

Ticket Price: $10-$8

Tickets are available through the PSU Box Office at 503.725.3307, or at the door.
