NASA: 50 Years and Beyond
Thursday, April 15, 2010 - 7:00pm

The Past, Present and future of America's Space Exploration program will be discussed in this special Friends of History program featuring two representatives from the NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador Program. Les Hasings will give a presentation on "NASA: 50 Years and Beyond" and then Greg Cermak will speak about NASA's plans to replace the Hubble Telescope with the James Webb Space Telescope.

The 40th Anniversary of the Apollo 13 commemorates the space mission that was finally described as "successful failure", when a oxygen tank rupture in the middle of the mission forced the planned-for lunar landing to be aborted. Flight Commander James A. Lovell Jr co-wrote the best-selling book which was then adapted into an award-winning 1995 movie.

The PSU Friends of History is the non-profit support group of the History Department at Portland State University. We sponsor and produce free educational programming as part of the department's outreach to the community and cover many history-related topics that elucidate and empower the citizens of the city that PSU serves.
