The Project: The Kanungu Book Project is a joint effort between students in the Community Development program at Portland State University, led by professor of Urban Studies and Planning, Dr. Richard White, and the National Book Trust of Uganda to raise $6,000 for Kanungu Primary School in Uganda. These funds will provide textbooks to students who currently have no access to them, as well as shelving, teacher training and monitoring of the project. Through local production of these textbooks (made possible by our partnership with the National Book Trust of Uganda) our project promotes investment in education and community economic development in the region, and provides students with culturally-appropriate material to study.
Where: 2828 NE Glisan Steet, Portland, OR 97232

• Two locally-produced text books for every student
• Shelving in one classroom for a library
• Teacher training in book-based pedagogy
• Monitoring of teacher and child progress for one year
*And remember! Anything we raise up to $1000 at this event will be matched to the dollar.
