"Ensuring Equity is Part of Sustainability" - Sustainability Research Forum
Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 3:00pm to Thursday, December 6, 2007 - 4:00pm
We invite you to attend Jill Fuglister's presentation entitled "Ensuring Equity is Part of Sustainability: The Regional Equity Atlas - Metropolitan Portland's Geography of Opportunity" on Thursday, December 6th, from 3:00 - 4:00pm in Smith Center, Room 333.

For the past several years, Portland, Oregon's Coalition for a Livable Future has been working in partnership with Portland State University and other groups to conduct research on equity conditions in the six-county Portland-Vancouver metro area. This research analyzes access to various assets - housing, public education, transit, parks and greenspaces and food by different populations, with a focus on low-income communities and communities of color. A primary goal of this project is to educate the community about regional equity concerns and their relationship to our region's approach to sustainable development. In addition, CLF is using the research to shape public policy decisions so that future development and growth is more equitable, and truly sustainable.

Jill Fuglister, Co-Director of the Coalition and Equity Atlas Project Director, will present the Atlas Project and invite participants to brainstorm ideas about how professors and students involved in PSU's Academic Sustainability Programs might use and benefit from the Atlas work, and be involved with the project in the future.
