Portland based nonprofit New Avenues for Youth will celebrate the grand opening of their second Ben & Jerry’s PartnerShop® located on the campus of Portland State University (PSU) in the new Urban Plaza on Thursday, July 7th, 2011. The PartnerShop will provide work and training opportunities to more than one hundred homeless and at risk youth in our community annually. The PSU PartnerShop is the second Ben & Jerry’s owned and operated by New Avenues for Youth. The July 7 grand opening will also be the official launch of their five year micro enterprise initiative.

"Of all of our wonderful retailers, we're especially proud of our partnership with New Avenues for Youth because of their unique mission to enable homeless youth to get off the street,” says Mark Gregory, Interim Vice President of Finance and Administration at PSU.  “It's not just about the ice cream, but we are very excited to have a Ben and Jerry's on campus."

New Avenues leadership team, PSU administrators, youth program participants, and elected officials will be on hand to celebrate at the scoop shop’s ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon.  Interviews will be available with youth working in the PartnerShop, Brian Rice, president of the New Avenues Board of Directors, and elected officials. The festivities continue immediately following with fun family entertainment in the Urban Plaza and free cones until 2pm!
