This course will examine the intersection of race, nation and social justice through the study of three minority communities in Berlin, Germany. These groups are Turkish “Guest Workers”, Afro-Germans and the LGTBQ community. All three of these groups have struggled over time to create community as they face a historically xenophobic, homophobic and white nationalist culture.

We will also explore the relationship between American communities and these groups. This will be a seminar-style course with daily class sessions on weekday mornings and afternoon activities related to the course on most days.
