Meet early childhood expert Ingrid Anderson

IIngrid Anderson, EdD is an assistant professor of practice in curriculum and instruction. She is the program coordinator for PSU’s interdisciplinary Early Childhood Council. She works with faculty across campus to foster interdisciplinary and innovative community partnerships creating opportunities for professional development, research, advocacy, and services to children and families. Dr. Anderson is also the program coordinator for the Infant/Toddler Mental Health (ITMH) graduate certificate, and co-coordinator of the Master of Early Childhood: Inclusive Education program.

She holds a BA in women’s studies from San Diego State University, and an MEd in education with a focus on conflict resolution and peaceable schools from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA. She earned her doctorate in educational leadership from Portland State University in 2014. Dr. Anderson’s focus is on early childhood educators’ experiences in professional development systems, learner-centered pedagogies in early childhood, and the emotional lives of early childhood educators. 

Dr. Anderson currently serves on several state committees focused on Oregon’s early childhood professional development system, including the Oregon Child Care Research Partnership Committee, the Professional Development Committee of the Early Learning Division, and on various state committees focused on Infant Toddler Mental Health.

Prior to joining the Curriculum and Instruction Department in 2015, she worked in the Oregon Center for Career Development in Childhood Care and Education at PSU, where she coordinated the Oregon Registry, supporting the 23,000 individuals working in the Office of Child Care Licensed programs in Oregon.

Dr. Anderson has been in the early education field since 1990, and has extensive experience in early childhood education in city government, school districts, and county departments of education. She has taught in community college and at PSU, and was the director of programs and education for the Portland Children’s Museum. Dr. Anderson consults nationally on the importance of learner-centered practices in state professional development systems and on the emotional lives of early educators.
