PSU Safe Driving

PSU Risk Management (RM) and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) have developed the following to facilitate safe operation of University Vehicles:

These guidelines are based on best practices and industry standards in order to mitigate risks. Drivers and departments are responsible for the following:
 

DRIVERS

  • Drivers are expected to follow the rules and regulations of Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), the laws and regulations concerning driving in any local or state jurisdiction, and University driving requirements:  Driver Conduct & Vehicle Use
     
  • For information regarding Powered Industrial Trucks, Fork Lifts, Scissor Lifts, All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) or any other unusual vehicle, contact EHS
     
  • Accidents, incidents, near misses, and moving violations must be reported to supervisor immediately.  The following page contains details on forms and procedures:  Accident Reporting

DEPARTMENTS

  • University departments are responsible for ensuring their department-related motor vehicle use is in compliance with PSU Safe Driving Guidelines, including:
    • Driver Authorization:  Department-related motor vehicle use will only be permitted for employees and students that have completed the Driver Authorization Process and are approved by Department supervisor.

    • Vehicle Maintenance:  All University Vehicles will be serviced in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule or otherwise in accordance with prudent practices.  All maintenance, repairs, and State of Oregon DMV inspections performed on University Vehicles will be documented and retained for the life of the vehicle and are the individual departments' responsibility.
