Letter from Heather Randol,
Director, Environmental Health & Safety

Welcome to the Environmental Health & Safety Department at Portland State University!

Heather Randol EHS DirectorEnvironmental Health and Safety professionals work side by side with campus staff, faculty and students to ensure Portland State University is a safe and healthy place to work, learn and conduct research. Our programs help prevent potential injuries and illnesses whether you are studying chemistry, maintaining campus buildings or working at your computer.

We also minimize the impact of campus operations on the environment by properly managing waste from labs, recycling batteries and fluorescent lights, and working with Oregon Department of Environmental Quality on a variety of programs.

Each member of the campus community can contribute to these efforts. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with the programs and resources described on our website. Consider your activities on campus: What steps can you take to prevent injuries? Do you have the training you need to do tasks safely? Do you have the right tool for the job?

Talk to your instructor or supervisor if you have safety concerns or contact one of our EHS staff for assistance. Your input helps us develop new and better ways to promote safety and be responsible stewards of the campus environment.

Please let us know how we're doing!
