Dr. Melanie Michalak will present "The Ups and Downs of a Forearc: Tertiary Tectonics, Basin Formation, and Paleotopography of the Klamath Mountain Province"

at the Department of Geology's weekly speaker series.

Melanie Michalak is a Professor in the Department of Geology at Humboldt State University. Dr. Michalak is a field-based tectonic geologist who uses geochronologic methods to study active orogens. Her research addresses the interactions between crustal exhumation, uplift, and erosion in active orogens by drawing upon quantitative techniques including low-temperature thermochronology, detrital geochronology, and cosmogenic radionuclides to quantify rates and timings of processes responsible for growth and decay in orogenic settings.
