Hazard Mitigation Planning
Hazard mitigation is the effort to reduce loss of life and property by lessening the impact of disasters on the built environment, natural environment, social systems, and operations. .
Developing a Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan (NHMP) involves the identification of hazards, a vulnerability analysis, defining mitigation strategies and actions, and implementing those strategies and actions. PSU does not yet have a campus-specific Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan, but will develop one in 2017.
The City of Portland updated their Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan in 2015-2016 and their plan as well as information about the planning process is available online from the Portland Bureau of Emergency Management website.
The State of Oregon Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan was approved by FEMA on September 24th, 2015 as an Enhanced Plan and is effective through September 23, 2020.
