Training and Development Graduate Certificate

The Training and Development Graduate Certificate provides experiential preparation for professionals who develop, teach/train, manage, and/or consult in the areas of workforce (employee and volunteer) development. Program participants will apply current theory as they plan, create, deliver and evaluate quality training programs for their organizations. The Training and Development graduate certificate curriculum is based on the Association for Talent Development (formerly ASTD) national competencies and utilizes multiple delivery models (face to face, online and hybrid) to minimize access issues for working professionals.For more information about the local chapter of the Association for Talent Development (ATD), visit Association for Talent Development: Cascadia Chapter.

The certificate program is designed primarily for 

  • Trainers, training managers, training consultants
  • Workplace Learning and Performance (WLP) professionals
  • Human resource and staff development personnel
  • Individuals interested in pursuing careers in training, coaching, and workforce professional development

Certificate learning objectives

The learning outcomes for this  graduate certificate are based on  the American Talent Development (previously ASTD) Competency Model. Completers of the graduate certificate will be prepared to:

  • Design training
  • Monitor, evaluate, and/or record training activities or program effectiveness
  • Assess training needs through surveys, interviews with employees, focus groups, or consultation with managers, instructors, or customer representatives
  • Develop alternative training methods
  • Organize and develop, or obtain, training procedure manuals, guides and course materials

Certificate curriculum (18 credits total)

For the convenience of our diverse student body, students can choose to take this certificate in a variety of delivery formats: face-to-face (F2F), hybrid, and online. Refer to the PACE Planning and Course Guide for current offerings and delivery formats.
