Meet Assistant Professor Tania McKey

Tania McKey, PhD, is an assistant professor in the Initial Administrator Licensure program. She earned her doctorate in administration, supervision and curriculum at Auburn University where she also worked as a graduate research/teaching assistant in the college of education and the office of diversity and multicultural affairs. Two of the projects she was passionate about during her tenure at Auburn University was supporting the implementation of STEM in K-12 schools in Alabama and facilitating an outreach initiative with the Opelika City Schools focused on learning gardens. Her dissertation focused on the U.S. Department of Green Ribbon School Award Winners 2012, 2013, and 2014. Dr. McKey’s research interests include whole school sustainability, green schools, STEM in the early years (K-5), and urban leadership preparation.

Dr. McKey’s background includes teaching, coordinating and leading International Baccalaureate (IB) World Schools in Minnesota, Texas, and Indiana. She played a significant leadership role in the implementation of the first whole-school Middle Years Programme (MYP) of the IB in a Title I school district in Minnesota. Dr. McKey has continued to share her experience and knowledge as an IB volunteer by facilitating workshops, leading site visits, and providing consultation for schools in the implementation process.

Dr. McKey’s experience as a teacher, IB coordinator, assistant principal, principal, and central office administrator gives her the expertise and experience to successfully prepare future instructional leaders who recognize diversity and strive to provide equitable experiences for children.
