The journey from applicant to teacher

Ever wonder what it’s like to walk into your first classroom after earning your Oregon teaching license? At this Teacher Talks Event, you will hear from Graduate Teacher Education Program (GTEP) alumni as they share their experiences, insights, and advice for incoming students.

Attendees will be able to ask the alumni questions, talk to advisors, meet GTEP faculty, and more!

Teacher bios

Mollie Anderson graduated from the Graduate Teacher Education Program in 2017 with a master’s in education degree and an Oregon teaching license in elementary multiple subjects. She is currently in her first year of teaching and is working as a first grade teacher at Eisenhower Elementary in the Vancouver School District.

John Ryan Custodio graduated from the Graduate Teacher Education Program in 2013 with a master’s in education degree and an Oregon teaching license for K-8 multiple subjects. His first teaching position was in Lincoln City where he taught fourth and fifth grades. John Ryan currently teaches honors ancient civilization, language, and literature at Jason Lee Middle School in the Vancouver School District.

Joel Ford graduated from the Graduate Teacher Education Program in 2016 with a master’s in education degree and an Oregon teaching license for K-12 music education. Joel is in his second year teaching K-8 music at Bridger Elementary School for Portland Public Schools.

Evelyn Hinds graduated from the Graduate Teacher Education Program in 2015 with a master’s in education degree and an Oregon teaching license for K-8 multiple subjects. She is a kindergarten teacher at Rock Creek Elementary in the Beaverton School District and is in her third year of teaching.

Kelly LeCoq graduated from the Graduate Teacher Education Program in 2013 with a master’s in education degree and an Oregon teaching license for K-8 multiple subjects. She is in her fifth year of teaching third grade at Vose Elementary School in the Beaverton School District.

Matt Owens graduated from the Graduate Teacher Education Program in 2016 with a master’s in education degree and an Oregon teaching license for Secondary English Language Arts. Matt is in his second year teaching at Rock Creek Middle School in the North Clackamas School district.

Courtney Palmer graduated from the Graduate Teacher Education Program in 2015 with a master’s in education degree and a license to teach secondary English language arts. Courtney is in her third year of teaching at Grant High School in Portland Public Schools and currently teaches world literature, Latin American literature, and African American literature for dual credit with PSU.

Richard Topping graduated from the Graduate Teacher Education Program in 2015 with a master’s in education degree and a license to teach high school chemistry. He started working at Rex Putnam High School in the North Clackamas School District after graduation and is in his third year of teaching.

Nichole Watson graduated from the Graduate Teacher Education Program in 2015 with a master’s in education degree and an Oregon teaching license for K-8 multiple subjects. Nichole is in her fourth year of teaching for Portland Public Schools where she is a fifth grade teacher at Rosa Parks Elementary.
