Dr. Randy Hitz is the Dean of the Graduate School of Education at Portland State University. His administrative experience includes two other deanships (eight years each at the University of Hawaii and Montana State University) and work in the Oregon Department of Education as the Early Childhood Education Specialist. His teaching experience ranges from preschool and kindergarten to graduate education. Though he has been an administrator for over 20 years, he still sees himself primarily as a teacher and an advocate for quality education at all levels.

The GSE is located on the second floor of the Fourth Avenue Building, on the corner of SW Harrison and SW 4th Avenue. We recommend you enter the building via the entrance on SW Harrison and take the central elevator or stairs to the 2nd floor where you will find the GSE’s reception area adjacent to the elevator lobby.
Office hours are 8am-5pm Monday through Friday. The GSE is closed all university holidays.
Please note that using the entrance on SW 4th Avenue will put you in the City of Portland Building. To reach the GSE from this entrance, take a left at the City of Portland reception desk, and follow the hallway into the Portland State side of the building, then take the elevators or stairs to the 2nd floor where you will find the the GSE’s reception area adjacent to the elevator lobby.
Transportation and Parking
We recommend visitors utilize public transportation (i.e. bike, walk, bus, Max, Streetcar, etc.) as hourly parking on campus can be limited. However, if you choose to drive, we recommend parking in either PSU’s Fifth Avenue Lot or the U-Park Lot on SW Harrison for easiest access to the building. You may wish to review the list of all of PSU’s hourly parking lots and structures.
