Jen Hamlow

As Director of Education Abroad, Jen works with PSU faculty looking to develop short-term international programming, as well as with the entire advising staff to ensure quality international education abroad opportunities for the PSU community. She joined the Education Abroad team in 2012, and has worked in the field of international education since 1999.

Jen first caught the international education bug in high school as part of a German American Partnership Program exchange, where she traveled to southern Germany, living with the German student her family had hosted in her home town of Lake Oswego. During her junior year at Pacific Lutheran University, Jen studied in Freiburg, Germany, focusing on German language acquisition and intercultural communication studies. After graduation, Jen received a Fulbright Scholarship to study Intercultural Communications in Salzburg, Austria for the year, then moved to Vienna the following year to teach English at two schools.

After Europe, Jen moved to Chicago to complete her MA in Multicultural Communication from DePaul University and launched her career in international education at the Institute for the International Education of Students. While based in Chicago, she also had the opportunity to work at the IES London Center for a summer helping U.S. students acclimate to their internships and studies. After seven and a half years in the Midwest, Jen happily returned home to Portland to work for AHA International in 2006 until joining PSU.

Jen enjoys traveling and getting away just as much as she loves living in Portland. Some of her favorite destinations include Accra, Ghana; Christchurch; New Zealand; Innsbruck, Austria, and Havana, Cuba – where she recently joined a PSU Faculty-Led program.
