How to Request Accommodations

Registering with the DRC

This is an interactive process between the student and the DRC.

  1. Fill out the application form in DRC Online. If you have trouble completing the application, you can watch the Application for Accommodations video. NOTE: Accommodations do not automatically transfer from your previous school to PSU after you fill out the application.
  2. You will receive a follow-up email with a link to schedule an initial appointment with an Access Counselor and Consultant to discuss and set up your accommodations. An Access Counselor & Consultant (AC&C) meets with each student to discuss disability-related barriers and accommodations that can create a more equitable experience. While most appointments are virtual at this time, you can also make the appointment by calling the DRC at 503-725-4150, emailing drc@pdx.edu, or stopping by our office at SMSU 116 during open hoursYour experience of your disability and barriers you encounter as a student and as a member of the PSU community are the most important factors in determining reasonable accommodations. You and your AC&C will discuss the specific impacts of your disability or barriers you encounter at PSU. This interactive process will allow the DRC to work with you to determine the best way to support your access to education and university life. During the conversation, your AC&C will explain how you will access your services each term.
  3. During or shortly after the meeting, your AC&C will let you know if we need additional information from a qualified professional (someone who has been seeing or treating you) before we can provide one or more of your requested accommodations.*

For additional information, see our Student FAQ webpage. If you are transferring to PSU from another college or university, our Transfer Students with Disabilities page has helpful information and resources.

After your Initial Appointment

Each term, to alert your instructors to your academic accommodations, you will submit your service requests for each class. To do this, you will log into our DRC Online system and the accommodations you are eligible to use will appear alongside the term’s classes. Select the accommodations you wish to use in each class.

Our DRC Online system will generate the DRC Faculty Notification Emails that go to each of your instructors and a copy will be sent to you as well. These Notification Emails identify you as a student registered with the DRC and list the accommodations you are eligible to use in their classes. Keep in mind that accommodations are applicable from the time your DRC Faculty Notification Email is sent through the end of the term. Accommodations are not retroactive (meaning they cannot be applied to the course prior to the date the Notification Email is sent).
