Ibsen play opens this week

Hedda Gabler, Henrik Ibsen's masterpiece of the modern theater in a new translation by Jon Robin Baitz, opens Friday, Feb. 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Lincoln Performance Hall. The play continues through March 7. A low cost preview is scheduled Feb. 22 and on March 7 admission is Oregon Food Bank donations. Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night, Feb. 22

Cheer on the men's basketball team as they take on Sacramento State in Big Sky conference play Thursday, Feb. 22, at 7:05 p.m. in the Stott Center. In appreciate for everything faculty and staff do for Portland State, Athletics is offering half price admission with PSU identification at the Stott Center ticket window or at the Smith Union Box Office before 5 p.m. on game day. President signs Climate Commitment

Dan Bernstine is the first Oregon University System president to sign the Presidents Climate Commitment sponsored by the Association for Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. He has also agreed to serve on its leadership circle to help shape the initiative and promote it to other college and university presidents nationwide. read more >

Athletics director finalists coming to campus

Four candidates for the position of PSU Athletics Director are scheduled to be on campus at different times Feb. 28 through March 16. The finalists are Torre Chisholm, University of California Irvine; Chris May, University of Colorado; Bruce Parker, Carroll College (Helena, Mont.); and Pete Isakson, Washington State University. Coach Tim Walsh leaves Portland State for Army

Portland State head football coach Tim Walsh will be leaving the Park Blocks after 14 seasons as he has accepted the position of offensive coordinator at Army. Walsh will work for new head coach Stan Brock, a former Portlander and long-time friend. read more >

Statewide student transfer and articulation to be discussed

Faculty and staff are invited to two open sessions on Senate Bill 342, which was signed into law in 2005 and directs Oregon's community colleges and OUS universities to coordinate more effective student articulation and transfer among institutions. The sessions are Feb. 22 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. in 327 Smith Union, and Feb. 28 from 10 to 11 a.m. in 229 Smith Union. read more >

Justice is topic of Shireman Memorial Lecture

"Reflections on the Real Consequences of Justice," a free lecture honoring the late Charles Shireman, who taught for 15 years at the School of Social Work, is scheduled March 1 at 7:15 p.m. in the Multicultural Center, 228 Smith Union.
