Bicycle Theft

Definition:  Bicycle theft occurs when a person takes a bike from the owner without his or her consent and without intent to return the property. Theft of a bicycle also occurs when a person obtains possession of a bicycle knowing or having reason to believe that the bicycle is lost or stolen, and the person does not make reasonable attempts to return the bicycle to the rightful owner. Bicycles taken from inside of a residence when the owner is not present are usually classified as burglary.
