Renovation and Restoration:: Make cities better in China
Abstract: In the past 40 years, China’s fast urbanization not only brought significant urban construction but also led to development challenges due to ecological deterioration, water pollution, and market competition. In 2014, the central government initiated the city betterment and ecological restoration program named “shuangxiu” nationwide, aiming to learn from international sustainability experiences to ensure quality development. The city of Sanya was designated as one of the pilot city for this program. In this seminar, Rong Ding will discuss their “shuangxiu” experiences and lessons learned in this southern city of China.
