Communication Scholarships and Awards

Undergraduate students should peruse the PSU web for the University’s scholarship and award information. A good place to begin is at the PSU Scholarship website.

Communication students are invited to apply for departmental awards on October 13,2017.

Application deadline for both applications is February 1, 2018. 

Each application has its own eligibility requirements and procedures so please review the information below.
 

Barbara Exner Vogelsang Scholarship

The Barbara Exner Vogelsang Scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student majoring in Communication who has demonstrated academic excellence and need. The scholarship is for a one-time award of $250.

Barbara Exner Vogelsang Scholarship ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

• Current Communication majors who have earned a GPA of at least 3.4
• Student must be enrolled in Summer or Fall terms, 2018
• Student must have demonstrated academic excellence in Communication courses

Barbara Exner Vogelsang Scholarship APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

The deadline for all applications is February 1st, 2018. 
To apply, complete the PSU General Scholarship Application and on this application, you will provide a 300 to 500 word statement regarding your experiences as a Communication major, and specifically describe your deepened understanding of a communication topic that interests you. Please be aware that the online scholarship application system will allow you to submit the application without an essay; however, applications without essays will not be considered. Please be sure to submit an essay!

Northwest Automotive Press Association (NWAPA) Scholarship

The Northwest Automotive Press Association (NWAPA) Scholarship is awarded annually to a junior or senior undergraduate student majoring in Communication who has an interest in journalism, particularly about automotive, technical, mechanical or consumer topics. The scholarship is for a one-time award of $2000 and is disbursed in the Fall.


Northwest Automotive Press Association (NWAPA) ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

• Current Communication majors who have earned a GPA of at least 3.2
• Students who have career goals in print or broadcast journalism with interests in automotive, consumer, technical     or mechanical products
• Students who will be juniors or seniors as of the beginning of Spring term, 2018
• Students who are residents of Oregon, Washington or Idaho

Northwest Automotive Press Association (NWAPA) APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

The deadline for all applications is February 1, 2018. 
To apply, complete the 
PSU General Scholarship Application. On this application, you will provide a 300 to 500 words statement describing your career goals in print or broadcast journalism. You are also required to provide a paper completed for a Communication course that relates in some way to journalism.; Please be aware that the online scholarship application system will allow you to submit the application without this paper; however, applications without papers will not be considered.
