Dr. Malcolm Lea
Dr. Malcolm Lea

The Biology Department is sad to announce that Dr. Malcolm Lea, Biology Professor Emeritus, has passed away. Malcolm earned his PhD from Northwestern University after he completed his European service in the Army as a medic. He did postdoctoral research in Australia before coming to PSU. Malcolm principally taught Cell Physiology, a required course, as well as Cell Physiology Lab. His broad impact on biology students as well as that of Dick Forbes led to the establishment of the Forbes/Lea Fund to support student research at PSU. His research at PSU was mainly around mitochondrial function. He was active in the anti-war movement in the 60's as well as an advocate for zero population growth. He is survived by his former wife Jan and current partner Zora and two children Tommy and Cathy. Malcolm was a man that embraced life and was a loyal, stall worth friend of many. He will be sorely missed.
