In a developing nation like India there has been a large scale exodus of village population to the cities in the last few decades to meet the demands of the industrial sector which has far reaching consequences in social, economic and political terms. However, in the recent past the situation has backfired and the rural urban hiatus has turned out to be far more complex and problematizing manifest in the new dynamics of power. Given the fact that literature is the mirror image of a society, this lecture will examine the new dynamics of power in novels such as Arvind Adiga's The White Tiger, Rohinton Mistry's The Fine Balance and Kamala Markandaya's The Bombay Tiger.
