Academic Programs

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences provides the intellectual foundation for the liberal and professional education of students at Portland State University and for the enhancement of the quality of life in the metropolitan area.

The faculty are committed to instruction at the graduate and undergraduate levels and to the pursuit of knowledge through research and service activities in the humanities, natural sciences and social sciences.

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences offers 24 bachelor's degrees in the Humanities, Sciences and Social Sciences. Each provides insights and perspectives enabling students to study, evaluate, and understand themselves and the society in which we live.

The College offers 20 master's degrees in the Liberal Arts and Sciences. A doctoral degree in Biology, Mathematical Sciences, Mathematics Education, and Environmental Sciences and Management, and joint doctoral degrees with System Science in Anthropology, Economics, Mathematics, Psychology, and Sociology are offered.
