Today Portland has become a popular destination among Japanese tourists, media, students, researchers, governments and multinational corporations. What's behind this phenomenon.

This lecture will focus on Portland's tnotoriety in Japan as an evironmentally sustainable city, how Portland builds sustainable growth by listening to local citizen’s needs, establishing policies against the national trends, and creating the sustainable technologies industry . . . and how we're exporting this 'Green Cities' know-how and culture to Japan.

About the Speaker:

Mitsu leads the export development and foreign direct investment recruitment efforts for the City of Portland. He has been the lead for the 'We Build Green Cities' initiative to help build more sustainable cities in Japan. Prior to working for the Portland Development Commission (PDC), Mitsu worked as a strategy consultant, was an executive at a regional economic development agency, and was a business development manager for an international construction/engineering firm working throughout the United States. Born and raised in the Tokyo metro, he has lived in the U.S. for the past 20 years.
