Governor Roberts will discuss her strong belief in sharing and preserving history, including written first-hand accounts and preservation of personal papers.

She a native Oregonian and served as the 34th governor of Oregon from 1991 to 1995. She is the first and only woman elected to that office.

Gov. Roberts graduated from PSU in 1964. In 1971 she successfully lobbied the State Legislature to require schools to guarantee rights to special needs children. In 1974 she married Oregon state representative and later senator Frank L. Roberts, who became her mentor. In 1981 she was elected to the Oregon House of Representatives as a Democrat; she was re-elected in 1983 and became the Majority Leader, the first woman in that post.
