Library Media Endorsement - Prerequisites and Admissions

Applications are now open! By submitting a single application in our College Net application system you will be considered for admission by your program as well as by Portland State University. This new web based application system will allow you to input your personal information, upload materials, and track your application status from any online location. Select the name of your program in your CollegeNet application: "Library Media Endorsement."

Interested applicants for the incoming cohort should apply for Fall 2017 admission to the program and plan to take their first class that term.

To be considered for admission, applicants must:

  • Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a strong academic record.
  • Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Hold a current teaching license or be enrolled in an initial licensure program that will complete by the beginning of Fall Term 2018

The following components are part of your College of Education application packet:

  • Personal statement
    • Describe your career goals, professional experiences and/or accomplishments, and your reason for applying to the program. Please limit your essay to no more than 500 words.
  • 2 letters of recommendation
  • Up-to-date resume or CV
  • Unofficial transcripts are accepted by the College of Education for the program application. You must submit transcripts for all institutions previously attended, regardless of whether you earned a degree or not. If admitted, you must send official transcripts to the Graduate School in order to register for classes.
    Acceptable unofficial transcripts are:
    • Web-based transcripts downloaded from an institution: institution and student name must be visible on transcripts
    • Photocopies of official transcripts: these must include the front and back of all pages, including transcript key
    Previous applicants:
    • If you’ve previously submitted official transcripts to PSU, you are still required to upload unofficial transcripts to complete your application.
    After you are admitted, you must submit official transcripts to:

Faculty will review your application only after all materials have been received. After the application review is complete, you will be notified of your official admission status.

Other considerations:

  • This is a two-year cohort program requiring you to complete all coursework, including both practica, by the end of Spring 2019. Visit Program Courses to see which term each course is offered.
  • If you are currently enrolled in a graduate program at Portland State, please submit a completed GO-19 Form. You do not need to complete an additional PSU application.

  • LIB 428/528 Children's Literature K-5*
  • LIB 429/529 Young Adult Literature


  • CI 432/532 Computer Applications for the Classroom**

*PSU accepts the following courses in substitution of LIB 428:

  • Portland Community College ED 112 
  • Mount Hood Community College ENG 221 
  • Chemekata Community College ECE 154 
  • Clark College (Vancouver) ECE 116
  • Possibly Clackamas Community College ECE 154 with a copy of the syllabus and a waiver request.

**PSU accepts the following courses in substitution of CI 432:

  • Portland Community College ED 136
  • Western Oregon University ED 421
  • Clackamas Community College ED 235
