Current Students

Courses tailored for the student desiring only an introduction to the field are offered on a regular basis. A wide variety of other courses in the program are designed to offer fundamental training for students majoring in chemistry or for students in other science areas, such as biology or health-related occupations.
The curriculum, faculty, library, and facilities of the Department of Chemistry are accredited by the American Chemical Society (ACS). Graduating chemistry majors are eligible for certification to become members of the ACS after two years of professional service.

Robertson Life Sciences Building (RLSB)

The Department of Chemistry offers classes in the state-of-the-art lecture hall and teaching labs in the Robertson Life Sciences Building (RLSB), a building on the South Waterfront with lecture halls, research and teaching labs, and academic offices for Portland State University. The building is shared with Oregon Health and Sciences University and Oregon State University.

Collaborative Life Sciences Building

Lectures offered in RLSB have a start time that is offset 15 minutes from the common PSU Time Grid to accommodate for travel time to the new building.  This will help students avoid scheduling back-to-back courses, which traditionally allows only 10 minutes of travel time.  Labs have an offset start time of 30 minutes on average. Overrides for time conflicts will not be considered.
