History

In 1955, the Oregon Legislature granted Portland State College status as a four-year college, initiating a period of significant growth for the institution, including the establishment of a Department of Chemistry.

A detailed history of the Department of Chemistry from 1955 was prepared in 1979 by Alfred S. Levinson, Professor of Chemistry at Portland State from 1963 to 1994.
