Dear Respected Faculty, Students, Friends and PSU Community Members:

Namaste. We are writing this urgent letter in regards to the catastrophic 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Nepal on Saturday, April 25. There have been a series of 5+ aftershocks as well. At this moment more than 4,500 people have been reported dead, and those numbers continues to rise. Thousands have been injured and countless have lost their homes. People are living in tents with no food, communication or electricity. Hundreds of travelers, children and their families are missing. Our historic buildings and temples are now dust, and monuments listed as world heritage sites are no more. Currently most of Nepal is windy, and it has started to rain in some places. The country will likely face cholera, massive homelessness and inadequate food/water supplies.

As a developing country, Nepal does not have enough resources to fight back during this sudden emergency situation. Hence, we wanted to initiate a campaign in Portland, Oregon, to help the people of Nepal.

How you can help?

1. Donate for the cause.

  • Monetary funds (online or cheque) are the best way to help. No food or clothing; it's costly to ship 7,000+ miles from the U.S.A.
  • We are working closely with Mercy Corps. Please provide your donation using this link
  • If you would like to send a check to Mercy Corps, please go to 101 or 121 East Hall, 632 SW Hall Street, to pick up an envelope which can be sent directly.
  • Please do not give cash.

2. Volunteer for the cause with Mercy Corps. Click on the "ways to help" link for information on how to volunteer.

3. Ask us on our Facebook page and during various on campus events. We will post our plans via our Facebook Page.

We continue to come up with other solutions, and we will update you as soon as possible. We look forward to your positive response and definitely your support.
